Random Reporter: Old folks surviving two young 'uns

I could act like "ain't nothing to it"  or all noble as "the sacrifice to our sanity was worth it!"  Instead, I am going to get brave and go the honest route.

The first two days were tough--no doubt about it!  Recovering from airplane ride, a 3 year old homesick within 2 hours and late to bed the first night.  Well, actually found the late to bed routine was the good thing as we found out they sleep till 7 or 7:30 so we kept that tradition!

By nap time each day we were ready for one too/!  We tried am activities to beat the heat at Dino Park.  It was fun but towards the end we agreed with Miles "Texas too hot Mimi!"

The second day we went to a small zoo (how did I know they had two zoos and we found the one without the train ride?!) and it was small, shaded and we had a decent time.  Though at end Miles insisted again it was "too hot"! Next time, in the Fall or Spring!

We were getting into the rhythm with their sleep, eating habits and it got easier keeping up!  Miles still got homesick now and then but it didn't seem so important, just he had to mention it.

A cute bedtime memory:

Miles:  Don't go Mimi...
Mimi:  Okay, do you need another song?
Miles:  No...I just talk...
Mimi: Ok, what are you thinking?
Miles:  I gotta go home and see my friends soon.
Mimi:  That would be fun...Which friend do you want to see first, Leo or Thomas
Miles:  Uhhh.  I think Thomas, I see Thomas first.
Mimi:  I know you have fun with Leo too so what do you like about being with Thomas?
Miles: I can't push Thomas, he doesn't like it so we don't push.
Mimi:  Yes, Thomas is gentle. Pushing would hurt his feelings.
Miles:  Leo and I push.  It's okay.  We like pushing!

Favorite Mile saying of the day at Chick Fil A:  "I gotta go and Save the Day, Mimi!" as he climbs to top of tunnel!

Children Museum Experience:

Big Thomas Train set right as you walk in!  I was wondering if we would ever get to explore!
I saw right away we were going to have to watch out for his bossy push everyone aside and grab the trains!

As we progressed to this huge "movement" room where you climbed up the tower and put your golf ball on the track and let it go to see of it could make it to the end of the roller coasters loops.  Once again NY boy was pushing everyone out of his way!  Moms are there trying to help their child have a turn and "me only focused" boy was pushing his way in so we had to have a little talk!  We worked on this all through the museum and he got better.

Story Time:  The reader is great.  Book about a family who is saving money in a jar to buy the "best chair" to replace one lost in a fire.  Picture of house on fire.  Miles:  Where's the dragon?  Guy: No there is no dragon as this is a house on fire.  Later:  Picture of jar with money in it.  Miles:  Why?  Guy:  Why?  Miles:  Why money in Jar?  Guy:  well, they put it there to save.  Miles:  No, put money in pocket!  Guy smiling grimly....Goes to a few more pages.  Miles:  I want to see the fire again!  Guy:  Later maybe, let's get through book first.  Miles:  ok...Guy gets to wear the chair is now bought and on truck and picture of girl riding in back of truck on Chair with empty jar.  Miles:  Why she on truck?  She need be in car seat!  Guy:  I was JUST going to read how she had to get off when they start the truck!  Miles:  Why Jar empty?  Where's money?  In pocket?  Guy:  No, they had to give to the store to pay for the chair.  Miles ok.....I like money in pocket....

I think he was relieved when we didn't stay for the second story!

Zach hung out with papa in the toddler area, climbing up a ramp where no one had to say "stop!" holding on to his hard hat!  Then with the hard hat still intact, down he came on the tunnel slide very pleased with himself!

Zach did very well even though he was not at his best that day.  No poop till 11, grumpy. wouldn't eat which is how you know "something" is wrong.  It was a day for the Squeezes and Milk bottle.  Poor little guy.  Around 5:30 he had a huge poop and after that found his happy face.

Favorite Game:  Hide and Seek!  Miles loves to hide his eyes (learning not to peek!) and Mimi hides!  Then when he finds me (I often give animal sounds so he can follow the sound) I yell "ROAR!"  Z laughs as much as Miles!

Most Personal--bringing tears to my eyes:

Miles is looking at all the pictures on the table, of all the pictures he chooses the one of Adam, Clyde and Julia. He wanted to know "who is that" and I explained that was my son, Adam and how his name is Miles Adam to match my Adam's name. "where is Adam" "He's with the angels and I know he is watching over you and loving you!" Pause....Where is Amy? Who is that? Julia, that is Uncle Clyde's sister.

He pauses, thinks, gives pic back to me then gives the pic one more look, "love you Adam" and I could barely hold it together....He sees another pic where Adam was maybe 4 at Myrtle Beach with Nanny being knocked down by waves. "What am I doing there?" I say, "no sweetie, that isn't you, that is my Adam with his Mimi." "NO! That's me!" The thing is, in that pic, Adam does look exactly like Miles....

Two more days.....Zach woke up with poop and a happy face!  We will probably go back to Chick Fil A for some last days of "tunnel playgroune" as Miles calls it...

Best Part of Visit?  The at least 5 times a day my rowdy boy slows down to give me a hug and say I love you Mimi...Makes it all worth while...

Roaming Reporter for The Kid Has Arrived

Note:  This popular Tumblr blog is on a small hiatus.  The owner is currently enjoying a week to reclaim her sanity and very possibly, physical rest.  Knowing her readers may wonder how the little guys are doing, I decided to writer her some updates.

Sat/Sunday:  Miles entertains us daily with is it "time to go to Texas Mimi"?  On Monday he tells us he doesn't want Zachy to go with us!  When it is time to go down to the car service, he does his best to convince Mama she doesn't need to go down with us.  Ungrateful child, right?

Mimi is feeling confident about this grandchild but hoping Zach can handle the separation from mommy.  Oy Vey!  It turns out what had Miles excited was the airplane ride and if he could do a round trip on a plane, hey he would be a very happy kid!  The kid who I was promised would be glued to his Ipad the whole time, watched at the most 45 min in total during 4 hr trip.  Marina asked "what did he do?!"  My reply "why he talked the whole time of course!"

However, realization that he can't "go home on the spur of the moment was a bit daunting for him.  Marina and Matt never have to worry that this kid doesn't love them to the moon and back!

Example:  Marina sings Edelweiss from Sound of Music as their nightly lullaby.  (Yeah, go figure, the least memorized song ever for good reason!)

I start to sing...
Miles:   NO! You don't sing that song.   Only mommy can sing that in NY!

I explain to him the wooden boat and airplane he likes was made by my "daddy"

Miles:  Not your papa?  Your daddy?

Mimi:  Yes that is why it is so special to me.

Miles:  (not to be out done)  MY daddy drew me a picture of a racecar for my birthday!! (like, how do you top that?)  A fact that gets repeated often around here.

Mimi: (after a sad face of I miss my mommy and I go home now!) Should we have some ice cream while we wait for wed?

Miles:  Oh yeah!  But my mommy has cookies too!  (very sneaky kid knew we had oreos!)

Last but not least his version of one up game:

Miles:  "I go home on Wed, right?"  I nod my head yes.  Okay then I pack today!

Mimi:  Well, it's 5 days away...Plus, we still need to go see the movie Planes, right?

Miles:  Well,  MY daddy took me to see Monsters, Inc!  AND I got popcorn!  You got popcorn Mimi?

Mimi:  I think we can get popcorn if you stay a few more days....

Miles:  OK!  I stay a little bit longer!

Did I just get outsmarted by a 3 year old?!

Miles:
